Algeria known as the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, this North African country is considered the second largest country on the entire African continent and the largest on the Mediterranean Sea. The Government of Algeria allows citizens of specific countries/territories to visit Algeria without having to obtain a visa.

ALGERIA VISA EXEMPTION

  • Nationals of the following countries don’t need a visa to enter Algeria: Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Seychelles, Syrian Arab Republic, Tunisia and Yemen.
  • Nationals of the following countries holding diplomatic passports do not require a visa to travel to Algeria: Argentina, Croatia, France, Germany, Hungary and Romania.
  • Diplomatic or official passport holders from the countries mentioned bellow also can enter Algeria without a visa: Albania, Benin, Brazil, Cuba, Egypt, Ethiopia, Greece, Guinea, Italy, Malaysia, Mali, Malta, Mexico, Niger, Peru, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Senegal, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Tanzania, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela and Vietnam.

ALGERIA VISA TYPES

A visa is required to travel to Algeria, whatever the length or the purpose of your stay. There are four main types of visas:

Tourist visas

Tourist visas is issued to persons who want to visit Algeria with the purpose of tourism

Student Visa

Student Visa is delivered to students who want to study in Algeria.

Family visa

Family visa is delivered to members of an Algerian family.

Business visa

Business visa is delivered to businessmen, representatives or employees of foreign companies who visit Algeria for business purposes (attend business meetings, conclude contracts…). But remember holders of business visa are NOT permitted to work and business visa cannot replace work visa.

Official visa

Official visa is delivered to diplomats or government officials holders of diplomatic passports, official passports or UN laissez-passer.

Work visa

Work visa is delivered to foreign workers or employees of foreign companies assigned to work in Algeria.

Cultural Visa

Cultural Visa is Delivered to applicants who want to visit Algeria to participate in a cultural event, scientific event (conference, research…) or sporting event.

Medical Visa

Medical Visa is delivered to applicants who wish to visit Algeria for medical reasons (get medical care or treatment …).

Media visa

Media visa is delivered to representatives of foreign media or journalists.

ALGERIA VISA REQUIREMENTS

Common Required Documents

 No matter what your nationality is and whatever the type of visa you are lodging an application for, you will always need to submit at least the following documents:

  • visa application form,
  • passport valid for at least six months,
  • copy of the identification pages of your passport,
  • two recent ID pictures.

Depeding on the types of visa, you may required to provide some additional documents:

Business Visa requirements:

  •  Original Passport with at least 6 months remaining validity
  • Two copies of the Visa Application Forms, fully completed, typed online, and signed. Original signature required on each page.
  • Two recent passport size photographs.
  • A letter of invitation from the host company in Algeria.
  • Copy of confirmed hotel reservation or a Guarantee of return transportation and sufficient funds for the visit (logging and food).
  •  A business letter of responsibility typewritten on your company letterhead is required

Tourist Visa requirements:

  • Original Passport with at least 6 months remaining validity
  • Two copies of the Visa Application Forms, fully completed, typed online, and signed. Original signature required on each page.
  • Two recent passport size photographs.
  • Copy of airline tickets showing dates of entry and exit from Algeria, and copy of confirmed hotel reservation or accommodation certificate duly certified by the local authorities in Algeria or an invitation from an Algerian travel agency with itinerary.
  • Guarantee of sufficient funds for the visit.

Work Visa requirements:

  • Original Passport with at least 6 months remaining validity
  • Two copies of the Visa Application Forms, fully completed, typed online, and signed. Original signature required on each page.
  • Two recent passport size photographs.
  • Work contract signed by the employer in Algeria.
  • Attestation of repatriation signed by the employer and sealed by the labour office of the wilaya where the applicant will be working.
  • Temporary work permit delivered by the Ministry of Labour, Department of Labour at the wilaya where the employer is based.

Temporary Work Visa requirements:

  • Original Passport with at least 6 months remaining validity
  • Two copies of the Visa Application Forms, fully completed, typed online, and signed. Original signature required on each page.
  • Two recent passport size photographs.
  •  Work contract which does not exceed 90 days signed by the employer in Algeria.
  • Attestation of repatriation signed by the employer and sealed by the labour office of the wilaya where the applicant will be working.
  • Temporary work permit

Family Visa requirements:

  • Original  Passport with at least 6 months remaining validity
  • Two copies of the Visa Application Forms, fully completed, typed online, and signed. Original signature required on each page.
  •  Two recent passport size photographs.
  • If the Algerian spouse is not registered at the Embassy, a document proving the relationship is required (such as a copy of the marriage certificate).
  • If the applicant is the family of an  employee working in Algeria, copy of family register, work permit and residence certificate are required.
  • Accommodation certificate duly certified by the local authorities in Algeria.

Cultural Visa requirements:

  • Original  Passport with at least 6 months remaining validity
  • Two copies of the Visa Application Forms, fully completed, typed online, and signed. Original signature required on each page.
  •  Two recent passport size photographs
  •  Invitation letter from the event organizer
  • Guarantee of sufficient funds for the visit.

Pre Media visa requirements::

  • Original  Passport with at least 6 months remaining validity
  • Two copies of the special application form for journalists filled and signed.
  • Two recent passport size photographs.
  • An assignment letter from the employer.
  • Copy of press card (ID which shows that the applicant is engaged in press activity.)
  • When applicable, an invitation letter from the Algerian partner;
  •  Itinerary details including approximate dates, appointments, interviews, and cities to visit.
  • List of technical and audio-visual equipment taken by the reporter;

Medical visa requirements:

  • Medical certificate and a letter from an Algerian healthcare institution;
  • Proof of financial resources;
  • Passport hard copy and a copy of the first page. The passport should be valid for at least six months;
  • $160 money order, we accept ONLY USPS money orders;
  • Two (02) copies of application form. Please fill out the editable PDF application form on screen, print it and then date and hand sign it. On each copy, please glue a photo on the box reserved for it at the upper right side of the form

Student visa requirements

  • Acceptance letter from Algerian educational institution;
  • Copy of scholarship notification letter if any;
  • Proof of financial resources;
  • Passport hard copy and a copy of the first page. The passport should be valid for at least six months;
  • $160 money order, we accept ONLY USPS money orders;
  • Two (02) copies of application form

Official visa requirements

  • Diplomatic note stating the applicant’s position and purpose of the visit. For UN employees, please send also a copy of it to the Algerian Permanent Mission in New York;
  • Diplomatic or official passport hard copy and a copy of the first page. The passport should be valid for at least six months;
  • Invitation letter from Algerian authorities (Participants in conferences, seminars, multilateral meetings…);
  • Two (02) copies of application form

Insurance requirements

When applying for a visa, all nationals of Schengen area member states must prove they have taken out travel and repatriation insurance for their stay in Algeria. The insurance solution should always include repatriation cover. Minimum coverage must reach a minimum of EUR30,000.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A ALGERIA VISA

You can apply in person, send your application through a visa services agency or mail it directly to the Consulate General. If you prefer to mail it directly, please provide a prepaid self-addressed return envelope (certified mail).
