Azerbaijan is a former Soviet republic in the Caucasus and variously considered part of Europe or Asia. The country lies on the Caspian Sea between Russia and Iran and is bordered to the west by Georgia and Armenia.

Visitors to Azerbaijan must obtain a visa from one of the Azerbaijani diplomatic missions, unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries, countries eligible for visa on arrival or countries eligible for electronic visa.

Citizens of the following 9 countries can visit Azerbaijan without a visa for up to 90 days:

     Belarus

     Georgia

     Kazakhstan

     Kyrgyzstan

     Moldova

     Russia

     Tajikistan

     Ukraine

     Uzbekistan

TYPES OF AZERBAIJAN VISAS

Tourist (Ordinary) Visa

Issued to foreigners and stateless persons who come to Azerbaijan for tourist purposes.

Business Visa

Issued to foreigners and stateless persons who come to Azerbaijan to conduct business meetings, attend conferences, trade fairs and expeditions, also to participate in exchanges in the fields of science, technology, education, culture and sports.

Employment Visa

Issued to foreigners and stateless persons who intend to carry out paid labor activity in the Republic of Azerbaijan

Private Visa

Issued to foreigners and stateless persons who come to Azerbaijan to visit friends or family and are invited by an Azerbaijani citizen OR to family members of a foreign citizen working in Azerbaijan on a business visa.

REQUIREMENTS OF AZERBAIJAN VISAS   

General requirements of Azerbaijan Visas:

+ Letter of Invitation

  • Tourist (ordinary) Tourist invitations (or a reservation confirmation letter from a hotel) should be on the letterhead of the travel company/hotel in Azerbaijan stamped, dated and signed by an authorised individual.
  • Business –  Letter of authorisation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Republic – both for single and multiple entry visas
  • Employment – Letter of authorisation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Republic – both for single and multiple entry visas
  • Private – Invitation from an Azerbaijani company or a foreign company based in Azerbaijan approved through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Republic

Passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the expiry date of the Azerbaijani visa applied for. If there is less than 3 months for the expiry of a foreign citizen’s passport, a visa will not be granted. Citizens of specific countries listed, who are required to obtain a visa with an ordinary passport or with a service passport, have to obtain a visa before travelling to Azerbaijan.

HOW TO APPLY FOR AZERBAIJAN

Visas are issued in at an embassy or consulate of the Republic of Azerbaijan or upon arrival at the border crossing points of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The visa application form may be filled online and submitted to the diplomatic mission.

The first way is to apply for evisa (sample of e-visa). This is the most convenient way to secure an entry visa to Azerbaijan. The advantages of evisa is lower cost, online process only (no need to visit embassies or send your passport to them), you get a visa to your email as PDF attachment that you just need to print out. You can enter Azerbaijan at any border entry point with this type of visa.

The second way is to apply for visa in a traditional way through the embassy/consulate of Azerbaijan republic abroad. To obtain tourist visa in this way you will need an official Letter of Invitation (LOI) from travel agency licensed by Azerbaijan Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
