Japan tourist visa is a short term visa which allows a visitor to visit Japan for the purpose of sightseeing, attending business meet or conference, participating in short term courses or visiting friends and relatives.

JAPAN TOURIST VISA REQUIREMENTS

General requirements:

  • Original passport, valid at least 6 months
  • Completed visa application form
  • white background picture size 4.5cm x 4.5cm
  • birth certificate, marriage certificate…
  • Daily schedule in Japan

Financial documents (if you have no Guarantor):

  • Income tax return (ITR Form 2316). They need a clear photocopy of it.
  • Bank certificate. Must be issued within the past 3 months

If you have Guarantor provide:

If a guarantor will sponsor your trip, you will need to provide the following additional documents.  

  • Guarantee Letter. Must explain your guarantor’s relationship to you and their contact details.
  • Proof of relationship between applicant and guarantor. For example, if the guarantor is a parent or a close relative, submit their birth certificate too.
  • Bank Certificate (original) of the Guarantor
  • Photocopy of the Income Tax Return (ITR Form 2316) of the Guarantor

HOW TO APPLY FOR A JAPAN TOURIST VISA

Before you apply for Japan tourist visa, you should prepare the required documents. Once you are aware of all the details regarding the application, you can go ahead with the following procedure:

Step 1: Download and Fill up the visa application form

You can download the visa application form on the internet then fill out the details required in the application form carefully. Remember to put your signature on your completed application form.

Step 2: Submit your visa application form

Submit your completed visa application at the Embassy of Japan nearest to you, along with all the required documentation.

Step 3: Pay the visa fees

Pay the applicable fee for your visa application at the time of submitting your application form.

Step 4: Collect your visa

After your visa is issued, you will be notified regarding the issuance. Collect your visa by showing the original invoice cum receipt provided at time of submission of your application.

FEES OF JAPAN TOURIST VISA

Fees must be paid for the issuance of visas. The fees are about 3,000 yen for a single-entry visa, 6,000 yen for a double-entry or multiple-entry visa, and 700 yen for a transit visa. Fees are collected in the currency of the country (region) in which the Embassy / Consulate General is located. Depending on the purpose of your visit and your nationality, fees may not be required or may be a different amount.

PROCESSING TIME OF JAPAN TOURIST VISA

The processing visa is approximately 5 working days from the day after the date of the acceptance of application as long as there are no particular problems with the content of the application. It may take less time than it depending on the Embassy/Consulate General and the purpose of visit.

VALIDITY AND DURATION OF JAPAN TOURIST VISA

A tourist visa to Japan is valid for a period of up to 90 days. A visitor is allowed to stay in Japan for maximum of 15 days only under the single entry regulation.

Important Notes:

  • Follow the instructions to the dot. Applications that don’t follow are not accepted. You might even need to fill out your application form again if you committed an error when filling it out before. Don’t be the applicant who holds the entire line.
  • Bring all the requirements. Incomplete applications are not accepted. Don’t waste time going back and forth the travel agency.
  • Remove the cover of your passport. Your passport is strong enough to be on its own without a case or plastic holder.
  • Do not staple forms. The agency will just ask you to remove them because they have to manually check everything.
  • Do not use an erasable pen when filling out the forms.
  • Unlike other tourist visa applications, you won’t be required to go to the Japanese embassy for an interview. The application is always done through an accredited travel agency and they will be the ones submitting it to you.
