There are 3 groups of countries, countries whose citizens do not require a visa (Group 1), countries whose citizens must obtain a visa prior to entry for free, or upon arrival for a fee (Group 2), and countries whose citizens must obtain visa in advance with special authorization (Group 3)

The tourist visa allows you to enter Bolivia simply to travel within the country for your enjoyment for a specified period of time.
The specific purpose visa is the option you will choose if you are planning to move to Bolivia to live, work or retire. The specific purpose visa is a travel visa or entry visa only. It does not automatically grant you residency in Bolivia, nor does it authorize you to legally work in Bolivia.
There are several other specific purpose visas for which you may apply, depending on the reasons you have for wishing to remain in Bolivia:
The student visa is the option you will choose if you are planning to study for a full three (3) years or more at a Bolivian school or university. This visa allows the student to apply for up to three (3) years of residency, which can be extended for periods of up to three (3) more years until the student's studies are complete.
In order to obtain the specific purpose visa to travel to Bolivia, you will be required to present the following documents to the Bolivian consulate in charge of your country or region:
The specific purpose visa has a cost of approximately Us$85.00 per person (this can vary from country to country), and can be paid by credit card or money order payable to the Bolivian Consulate. No cash will be accepted.
All of these documents must be presented in person or mailed to the Bolivian consulate, along with your passport.
